THE WEEK AHEAD at MVOL.com
(The Week Ahead Monday, May 21 through Sunday, May 27)

Martha's Vineyard
The week ahead will be a busy one on the Island as we dive into the first weekend of the summer season.  It’s likely a good portion of MV's residents will be spending time cleaning out the guest room and stocking up on barbecue fixings for the long weekend…no one wants to be looking at a store shelf empty of hot dog buns while the franks sizzle on the grill.

Where is everybody???
On May 21st SSA ferry service returns to Oak Bluffs. Double check your reservation to see where you’ll be departing from and spare yourself that last minute mad dash from VH when you discover that, actually, your boat leaves from Oak Bluffs.

Multitasking Martha’s Vineyard Style

On May 22 cut yourself a midweek break and drop in to Sharky’s Oak Bluffs or Edgartown where you’ll be able to Dine to Donate. This week moneys raised go to Women Empowered when patrons use their VIP card. 5-10 pm. Eat, donate, enjoy!

An Artful Week Ahead
The 2012 Season for the Louisa Gould Gallery "Memorial Day Group Show" opens May 23.  For the weekend a reception is scheduled on Saturday May 26 from 6-8pm and an Artist Talk by Donna Blackburnon is being presented on Sunday May 27 at 5pm. More on the Arts: An Opening Gala on Thursday May 24th from 6-8 pm kicks off the weekend-long, annual Friends of Family Planning Art Show Benefit. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at the door.  Adults only please at the Gala.  Parking is free. Not to be outdone by the visual arts the West Tisbury Library will hold a poetry reading with poets Patrick Phillips & Emma N. Young on May 24 beginning at 5 pm. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

On the same day, Polly Hill Arboretum invites you to explore the possibility of volunteering at their campus. Spend a morning with volunteer coordinator Nancy Weaver, executive director Tim Boland, and other PHA staff for this across-the-board introduction to the many ways you can become involved.

Other annual events to anticipate this  Memorial Day weekend are of course the Artisans Festival May 26 & 27; Oak Bluffs Memorial Day Five K Road Race  on Sunday May 27 and the season opening for the lighthouses of Edgartown and Aquinnah. Travel safe, have a great holiday and enjoy the Week Ahead!
