Each year nearly 100% of the Island Housing Trust’s financial support, or an average of $120,000 in operational grants and $315,000 in project grants annually, has come from individuals and businesses that contribute to the Island Affordable Housing Fund’s various fundraising campaigns. To contribute please contact the Island Affordable Housing Fund.
ESTATE PLANNING
The Island Housing Trust has partnered with the Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank in joint land purchases that have resulted in land conservation and affordable housing. Property owners interested in exploring the intelligent use of their land for both land conservation and affordable housing should CONTACT US or the Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank.
An introduction for property owners to estate planning entitled Donating for the Advancement of Affordable Housing on Martha’s Vineyard – A Summary of Tax and Ownership Benefits can be downloaded by clicking on the title above and can also be found in the PUBLICATIONS section.
BARGAIN SALES
Discounted or bargain property sales to the Island Housing Trust can provide important tax benefits to property owners who are faced with significant estate or capital gains taxes.
HOUSE MOVES
Use them don’t lose them. Many fine houses have been donated, along with the tax deductible proceeds to help move and renovate them. These houses are then sold affordably, instead of being demolished, shipped off-island, and disposed of. See HOUSE MOVES PROGRAM for more information.
PUBLIC SUPPORT
With the passage of the Community Preservation Act in each of the six-island town’s the Island Housing Trust will begin leveraging private funding and land purchases in order to make project specific applications to each of the towns in the years to come. Please support the Island Housing Trust's CPA funding requests at your annual town meetings.
