May is a month of new beginnings--at the Oak Bluffs SSA terminal, at Island restaurants, inn, hotels & B&Bs and vacation rentals. Beaches, cafes, shops and outdoor activities fill the days with fun that sets the mood for the summer to come. At month's end, Memorial Day weekend - this year May 26 to 28 - brings events that will delight the whole family.

Martha's Vineyard Celebrates Mothers Day
Mother's Day is on May 13th this year. Celebrate Mom with a springtime brunch or dinner on Martha's Vineyard. The annual buffet at the Harbor View Hotel is always a favorite or celebrate at the beautiful l'etoile restaurant, also in Edgartown. (When making your reservation be sure to inquire about seating in their lovely garden). This year the 1st Annual Pink & Green Weekend offers events throughout the weekend including the 1st Annual Pink & Green Ball.

Martha's Vineyard Blooms
Saturdays, beginning May 12th and continuing through month's end, the Community Solar Greenhouse holds its annual seeding sale: Organic, heirloom, vegetable varieties as well as flowers and herbs of all kinds are available. All Island grown, they come already acclimatized to Island living. On May 26th the WT Congregational Church offers a Unique Up-Island Property Tour highlighting intriguing plant collections, ornamental shrubs, water gardens, rustic arbors, and more. And on May 24th, Polly Hill Arboretum invites you to learn al bout volunteer opportunities for the 2012 season at their season kick-off event, Plants, People & Opportunities .

Memorial Day Weekend & More
Memorial Day Weekend, May 26-28 begins with Tisbury School students taking their traditional walk to Owen Park where they cast lilacs into the sea. In Oak Bluffs, runners head off on the annual 5K Road Race & Fun Run. on May 27th. And, up in West Tisbury, Vineyard Artisans holds its 2012 opening event May 26 & 27. The holiday weekend wraps on the 28th when Tisbury's annual town picnic is celebrated with boating, music and games for the kids at the town's waterworks property, adjacent to the Tashmoo overlook. Welcome to Summer 2012!
