The highlight of Earth Day on Martha’s Vineyard has been the annual VCS sponsored Earth Day Beach Clean-Up when individuals and families gather to clean their favorite beach. After-party, begins at around noon at the Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown.

Vineyard Gardens Lecture: Vegetable Gardens

Farm, field and flowers take center stage in the Week Ahead as Felix Neck hosts one of its popular Owl Prowls and the FARM Institute invites the family out to the farm to see what’s coming up in the spring sunshine and to experience the age old rites of spring lambing and shearing. On Palm Sunday, April 13th, Island nursery’s make a grand display of seasonal flowers, shrubs and flowering trees. Enjoy the Week Ahead!

Owls silently fly through our island woods and fields. Come to Felix Neck for a moon lit walk to look, listen, and learn whoo’s out there. Observe our resident barn owls on the Sanctuary’s owl cam and perhaps out on the trails.

Sheepapalooza
Join the celebration of Sheep & Shepherds, Food, Farming & Fiber. The day begins with morning chores, sheep shearing with Andy Rice, fiber arts, sheep herding demos, farm tours and more! Delicious farm lunch too.

Jimmy Was a Carpenter
The Island’s own Taylor Toole directs this romantic thriller about a man (Taylor Toole) who discovers he can bring his girlfriend (Jen Hirsch) back from the dead. Shot completely on Martha’s Vineyard with many local actors, this is Mr. Toole’s third feature film. MV Film Society hosts the Island premiere @ 7:30 pm.

Horseshoe Crabs: A Story of Beach Trysts and Blue Bloods
Often misunderstood by casual beach goers and in high demand by the bait and biomedical industries, the horseshoe crab plays essential roles in both the natural world and world-wide modern medicine. Susie Bowman, Felix Neck Teacher/Naturalist and Fred Hotchkiss, Director of the Marine Paleobiological Research Institute will present a lecture and slide show about these ancient marine residents of Martha’s Vineyard.

Got Photos from the  1960s on Martha’s Vineyard? To share visit the Museum from  10am to 1pm, when curators will be on hand to scan your photographs and add them to the MVM’s growing collection.

Enjoy a curated tour of the Museum’s the current exhibits, 3 – 4 pm. Refreshments served. Free for members/$7 for non-members.

West Tisbury Library Reopening Celebration
West Tisbury Library celebrates its much anticipated reopening and the unveiling of its expanded space. There will be refreshments, music, tours and more. Fun starts at 10 am. Admission is free and all are welcome to join the celebration.

Painting Party at the Wharf

The Flying Elbows string band and Jemima James will play a free concert at the Katharine Cornell Theater at 7 pm as a continuation of the Vineyard Haven Public Library’s America’s Music Series. This is a free event.

Art in the Stacks: Johanna Wooden
The Friends of the Vineyard Haven Public Library’s exhibit of photographs by photographer Johanna Wooden ends at the end of March. Take this opportunity to view the exhibit during the Libraries regular hours of operation before it’s too late!

The Festival continues withScreenings of exciting and thought-provoking documentaries, inspirational films, director presentations and a special matinee. Kids’ programs too!

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Edgartown
St. Patrick’s Parade begins at 11am with Kelley House and Newes From America Pub. Look for green balloons that indicate special sales and promotions at participating businesses.

Eastville, Martha's VineyardThe Week Ahead starts off with some exciting happenings around town:  On Saturday the long-awaited opening of the Copper Wok will be celebrated with not one, not two, not three, but four opening parties at its new Main Street,Vineyard Haven location.  Click on the link below for more info.  And, if you’re looking for a new BFF (Best Furry Friend) you’ll want to stop in at the adoption event being held Saturday at the Black Dog’s Oak Bluffs location.  Moving past the weekend, there’s still lots to do culminating in the opening of the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival on Thursday, March 13th and continuing through Sunday, March 16th. First Friday Community Open Stage
Show starts at 8pm. Doors open at 7:30pm @ Alex’s Place. Everyone is welcome to perform and enjoy the show at the Island’s only Open Mic night. $5 Admission.

Copper Wok Opening Parties
Copper Wok will host 4 opening parties on Saturday March 8th, with dinner service beginning Monday, March 10th at 4pm. On Saturday, March 8th Vineyard haven’s newest restaurant will be hosting four 2-hour long opening parties in at 12 noon-2pm, 3pm-5pm, 6pm-8pm and 9pm-11pm.

Black Dog Doggie Adoption
March is Doggie Adoption Month at The Black Dog! Adoptable dogs are visiting the Black Dog General Stores throughout the month of March! This week The Black Dog and Angels Helping Animals Worldwide host the event  from 12-4 at the BD’s Oak Bluffs location. Giveaways and raffles too!

Welcome to the quietest week of the whole year on Martha’s Vineyard—winter vacation week for MV’s school kids.  Eerie and oddly silent, it’s of course not just the kids that are gone but all their parents and in some cases grandparents and extended family who head for the ferry like lemmings leaping into the sea. In a week they’ll all be back with stories of the wonders of NYC, NH ski slopes, sunny CA and all points between.  Till then the beat goes on at home and we wish happy travels to all!

Special Event: PechaKucha Night
Devised in Japan in 2003 as an event for young designers to network, PechaKucha Night draws its name from the Japanese term for “chit chat,” and rests on a simple presentation format: show 20 images for 20 seconds each.

Saturday, Feb. 22
Seaside Saturdays at Long Point
Head down to the Long Point Visitor Center 10am-2pm for a variety of free educational programs for children and families. A Trustees’ Educator will be available to answer questions and assist you and your family with getting started on the right activity!

Nature Connection Mentoring with primitive skills, outdoor games, adventures - let kids be kids. Ages 6-13

Quick & Painless & Free! Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the Forum … a rowdy Valentine’s Day Massacre set in ancient Rome! Coriolanus is a startlingly contemporary tale about political intrigue, political spin doctors, political treachery.

Poetry: Cleaveland House Poets Read Works from Anthology
This evening celebrates the group’s recently published collection ~ Anthology, published by Summerset Press in hardcover, with sleeve art by Kara Taylor.
