The Grill on Main

The GrillNext time you're in the mood for a night out, check out one of Edgartown's newer restaurants for consistently great food in an attractive yet unpretentious setting.

Since opening its doors in 2003, the Grill on Main has quickly become a favorite with locals and tourists alike. Owner/chef Tony Saccoccia, formerly of Feast of Chilmark, describes the cuisine as New England-American. The Grill features uncomplicated delectable fare with a good selection of seafood along with succulent grilled meats.

Edgartown's Newest Year-Round Restaurant

The Grill on MainSituated on upper Main Street in Edgartown in a recently remodeled building. As you enter from the back parking lot, a bright open dining room beckons you in. Exposed beams and a vaulted ceiling define the space, while a selection of seascapes and pastoral scenes by local artist, Rebecca Everett, lend a colorful touch to crisp white walls. Cherry brown slatted chairs add a rustic element to the clean airy space. If you choose, have a drink at the cozy bar located in an alcove to the left of the entrance. Bar patrons are often joined beneath hanging stemmed glassware by a solo diner from the hotel next door.

The staff is welcoming and attentive. The kitchen, which is on view from the dining room, prides itself on being accommodating. "If I can do it, I will," says Saccoccia who is on hand in the kitchen every night. The Grill's wine list is very comprehensive, with many affordable wines available by either the glass or bottle.

Grilled To Perfection

~ Sample Menu ~

Baked Shrimp with Spinach
and Casino Butter

Warmed Pecan Crusted
Goat Cheese with Pear Vinaigrette

Grilled Tenderloin of Beef
with Horseradish Dijon Sauce

Starters on the Grill's current menu include the popular stuffed piquillo peppers with goat cheese and roasted red pepper honey butter and a turnover filled with chunks of delectable lobster meat and shrimp and finished with a creamy lemon sauce. Currently four salads are available, with a baby spinach salad dressed with a warmed applewood smoked bacon vinaigrette being a highlight.

With a rustic appeal to many of the offerings, the entrees range from grilled duck with an asian influenced plum and apricot glaze to moist baked codfish enveloped in a creamy lump crab and smoked scallop sauce to grilled tenderloin of beef with a piquant horseradish Dijon sauce. Simplicity is the defining quality of the Grill's offerings with an emphasis on clarity of flavor and, of course, perfect grilling technique. All entrees are accompanied by the Grill's famous creamy au gratin potatoes and a mixture of crisp sauteed seasonal vegetables. For the perfect finish, the warmed bittersweet chocolate bread pudding is a favorite with Grill patrons. A lighter fruit dessert is always available for those who can't quite handle this rich runny chocolate lover's delight.

Private Parties And Events

The Grill on Main will be open six nights all winter with a $30 prix fixe menu available each night. The Grill also does a lot of rehearsal dinners and other parties. The open space, which can seat up to about 100, would seem to lend itself very well to this type of event.
