The 1720 House is a true gem, nestled among arching trees and peaceful gardens in the historic district of Vineyard Haven. The 1720 House is a few minutes walk to sandy beaches, the shops and restaurants in town and the ferry. Home for generations of prominent Martha's Vineyard families, it was opened a decade ago as an accommodation by the ever-so charming Abby Hirsch.

A talented writer and television producer, Abby is a published author often called upon to write about the Vineyard. Most recently for the magazine Cottage Living. As a result, a stay at The 1720 House is likely to include convivial conversation with fellow guests over breakfast, under the trees of the garden or relaxing with a glass of wine after a day of exploring. Staff member Mike Westerviller is a tea sommelier, his exquisitely prepared tea service featuring first cut teas are a true highlight.

The 1720 House retains its grace, character and atmosphere in the best of the spirit and style of Martha's Vineyard. Its unique pre-1750 Gunstock Style architecture, lovely gardens and superb management insure that guests will have a wonderful vacation. Totally renovated for comfort and convenience while maintaining the architectural details which make it a significant contribution to the VIneyard's architectural heritage.

 Dear Abby,
Thank you for everything. Your property is unique and very beautiful; we loved the way you have decorated the house and the gracious serving of the continental breakfasts and use of the bikes. The best thing for us was your extraordinary hospitality, making dinner reservations for us and sending us to places we would never have found on our own. The island tour you were so nice to take us on was memorable. We understand why you have chosen to live there.
Joan and Peter Bessie

Breakfast
The 1720 House offers bedrooms with private bathrooms, air conditioning, goose down comforters and television. Continental style breakfast and afternoon beverages are complimentary. Complimentary bicycles are available to guests.

At the 1720 House they pride themselves in directing guests to the most interesting events on the island, often not known to visitors and even help to arrange for many activities. Striped Bass and bluefishing, sailing charters, bird watching .... the list is limited only by your interest and energy!

 Dear Abby,
You set the stage for the two of us to celebrate the most romantic Anniversary that I can remember. The chocolates, scented candles, flowers, silver champagne bucket and beautiful Baccarat glasses you so artfully arranged in our room were a very special touch. My wife loved the 13 ("never just a dozen") roses. At twice the price no one would complain.
Kevin B.

The 1720 House is available as an exclusively-yours house rental. The owner is on premise to facilitate guest's needs, a (optional) continental breakfast is served and daily housekeeper is included. Holiday and special family gatherings, weddings and small corporate meetings are by reservation and offer additional amenities in accordance with the season or occasion.
