Celebrating 4th of July on Martha's Vineyard

We contacted some of the prominent members of the Martha's Vineyard business community to find out what they plan to do or could recommend for the July 4th holiday.

4th of JulyWe were able to get in touch with Maggie White, owner of the Hob Knob Inn in Edgartown to get her take on what she enjoys doing on Independence Day. "We step outside to watch the parade go by" she said. Fortunately, for Ms. White and her guests, the parade route goes right by the front door of the Hob Knob. " I enjoy the spirit of the parade. I enjoy watching Camp Jabberwocky perform. The parade is always fun." After the parade Ms. White suggests that her guests do some shopping downtown. Before you know it, it's time for the fireworks. "I usually pack a picnic and head out on a boat to watch the fireworks. July 4th is usually a pretty hot day, so this is a great way to cool off."

Chris Scott from the Martha's Vineyard Preservation Trust spends his Independence Day at the Barbecue on the lawn of the Old Whaling Church. Fella Caterers will be serving up all the favorites from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Also you can enjoy the patriotic tunes by the Vineyard Haven Band before and after the parade. This family friendly event is open to the public. "That is where I'll be." Chris said.

4th of July"I like to look in the calendar of the newspaper or MVOL.com and choose something I've never done before and that is what I do." Says Jeff Kristal, president of the Tisbury Business Association. Jeff and his wife Janelle have 2 young children so his plans always include doing something fun with them.

Greg Orcutt, General Manager at MVY Radio, and his wife Mary, Manager of Good Dog Goods in Oak Bluffs, plan to spend their holiday weekend attending various parties and cookouts with family and friends. "When I get out of work on Saturday, I'll drive up to a friends house in Aquinnah where we will be having a fishing party. We will be going to my father's house in Edgartown for a cookout on the 4th and maybe we will go to the fireworks." Greg said.
