Island Insider: Spectacular September

September on Martha's VineyardSeptember - the sun is shining, sand and sea have absorbed three months worth of warmth and Island beaches are at their best. Mid-week, the savvy traveler can find great prices on accommodations whose prices make visiting off-season irresistible. But this is only the beginning.

If summer lines at your favorite restaurant sent you home to riffle through your refrigerator, you’ll love September: A great majority of restaurants, even those that are seasonal, stay open until Columbus Day. Dine out with ease at even the Island’s most popular spots.

  1) Dishing About Island Restaurants
Right around Labor Day, a same day reservation at the Harbor View Hotel’s new Water Street restaurant netted a coveted window seat. MVOL.com staffers report similar experiences at Détente in Edgartown and Jimmy Seas in Oak Bluffs.

At Island beaches parking is easy and where to spread your blanket a non-issue. Better still, some of the Island town beaches are now open to the public: in West Tisbury enjoy both Seth’s Pond and the ever tranquil Lamberts Cove Beach; in Chilmark visit Squibnocket Beach.

3) Lots of great events
From Tivoli Day to Film Festivals, Farm Fests to the opening of the Martha's Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby -- September is chock full of fun events that celebrate the many and varied interests of visitors and Island residents.

4) The Shopping Scoop
Around town, sales are everywhere.  A drop in at the Green Room revealed a pair of shoes eyed and admired this summer at twice the price. And it's not only summer clothing that's on sale.  Among the racks at Midnight Farm, Bryn Walker and others, are items that will take you comfortably through the sunny days of early fall and on to provide the bottom layer to winter's wear.

Weekend or midweek. in  September's Martha's Vineyard still sizzles...don't miss it!
